How to Integrate and Use ChatGPT in Google Docs

Google Docs is a powerful tool for creating and formatting documents collaboratively, and integrating ChatGPT can supercharge your productivity. With ChatGPT, you can effortlessly generate content like letters, agreements, essays, and more, directly within Google Docs. Here’s a simple tutorial to guide you through the process of setting up and using ChatGPT in Google Docs.

Step 1: Open Google Docs

  • Navigate to Google Docs and open a blank document in your browser.
  • Ensure you’re logged into your Google account.

Step 2: Access Add-Ons in Google Docs

  • In the top menu, click on Extensions.
  • From the dropdown menu, select Add-ons and then click on Get add-ons.

Step 3: Install GPT for Docs

  • In the Google Workspace Marketplace, type GPT for Sheets and Docs into the search bar and hit Enter.
  • Click on the first result, which should say GPT for Sheets and Docs.
  • Press the Install button. You may be prompted to grant the necessary permissions—approve them to proceed.

Step 4: Activate GPT for Sheets and Docs

  • Once installed, go back to the Extensions menu.
  • Look for GPT for Sheets and Docs in the list and click on it.

Step 5: Start Using ChatGPT in Google Docs

  • Open the Extensions menu again, go to GPT for Docs, and click on Launch Sidebar.
  • A sidebar will appear on the right-hand side of your Google Docs. In the sidebar, you’ll see a prompt box labeled Type your prompt:

  • Click Submit, and ChatGPT will generate the requested content directly in your document.
