xAI Unveils Grok iPhone App in the US, Widens Access to Chatbots
The artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, xAI, has launched its standalone iOS app for its chatbot, Grok, in the United States. The standalone app is currently in beta and presents users with similar functionality to that of the one integrated into X (formerly Twitter). Grok can respond in real-time to user queries, provide answers, or even generate images, making it a versatile tool for conversational AI.
The move follows xAI’s decision last month to make Grok available to all users, breaking away from its initial restriction to X Premium subscribers. This shift aligns Grok with other popular free-to-use AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot.
Testing and Future Expansion
xAI started testing the standalone Grok iOS app in December in some countries. However, the app is live for US users, but there is no official date said for the Android version yet.
Further, xAI seems to be developing a site specifically for the website, Grok.com, on which a “coming soon” message is found. This reflects further development on the chatbot, possibly extending its reach to more users with more features.
This rollout follows significant financial milestones for xAI. The company recently raised $6 billion, followed by another round of funding of $6 billion from strategic partners like Nvidia and AMD. Such funding will help the advancement of Grok’s development and broader AI initiatives for xAI.
As conversational AI tools are increasingly becoming popular, Grok is well positioned to be one of the most powerful contenders in this field. It can offer real-time information, generate creative content, and seamlessly engage users, making it a valuable tool in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.
